Pig Flu
So I'm curious to know what others are doing, if anything, to prepare for this potential pandemic. Are you worried? Have you started to prepare? Do you know anyone who has been sick? It does seem to be spreading exponentially but I'm not in a panic....yet. We haven't started our food storage and now I feel overwhelmed and at a loss at where to begin so I'd love some thoughts (cough cough...Laurie) on how to begin.

I am not worried yet. Maybe that's partly because I'm not living in a highly populated area and I feel somewhat more protected. Don't ask my about my logic on anything.

As far as starting your food storage, just start somewhere. For me if I look at the whole thing it's very overwhelming, so I have to break it down into smaller parts that I can handle. For instance last month I bought enough pasta and pasta sauce to last about 6 months. Everyone in my family will eat it so that's what I felt I needed on hand. I have a lot of other stuff that I'm not sure my kids will eat until they are on the verge of starvation, so I'm now trying to store things I know they will eat. It sounds silly but macaroni and cheese and ramen are two items I plan to have at least a six-month supply of.

I also have all the ingredients I need to make bread if I have to. I hope that helps. I would also suggest getting a two-week supply of water. We don't buy soda or juice a lot, but when I do I always get two-liter bottles or the big plastic juice bottles and then fill them with water after we've emptied them. Store them under your kids' beds if you're lacking space. I could keep going, but I'll let you digest all of this first.
